Day 6- FIELD STUDY

 September 12, 2025

Today’s lesson at Lahug Elementary School focused on the letter Y. Teacher Jovelyn began by discussing the repetition of the sound of Y. The children were given an assignment to practice writing the letter Y and the phrase:
“The yam of Sam is on the table.”

I was tasked to check the children’s work after they submitted their assignments.

Since today is Friday designated as Scout Day Teacher Jovelyn used the Boy Scout and Girl Scout songs as motivation and exercise. The children, wearing their scout uniforms, joyfully sang along and moved with energy.

After motivation, Teacher Jovelyn recalled yesterday’s lesson and then called each student one by one to read words from the board. While doing this, she also gave an activity: coloring a stoplight. The instructions were simple red for stop, yellow for slow, green for go. Once finished, the students submitted their papers to me for checking.

When the activity ended, it was recess time.

After recess, another engaging activity was given. The students received a worksheet booklet with boxes numbered 1 to 4. In each box, they had to:

1. Trace the number.

2. Draw an object that matches the number (e.g., one object in box 1, two objects in box 2, and so on)

3. Color their drawings.

4. Cut out the boxes and arrange them in order from 0 to 4.

Once they finished, they submitted their work to me so I could staple it together into a mini booklet.

For the assessment, I asked each child to identify numbers from the booklet. For example:

Me: “Can you find the number 1 and give it to teacher?”
Student: (looks for the number and hands it to me).

When the children correctly identified the numbers 0–4, I placed a star on their mini booklet as a sign that they passed the assessment. This way, their parents could also see their progress.

Overall, the day’s activities were interactive and meaningful, combining literacy, numeracy, and creativity with scouting motivation. I was able to closely observe how Teacher Jovelyn managed the class, assessed students individually, and kept them engaged through fun yet educational task
