Day 5- FIELD STUDY

 September 11, 2025

Today’s field study experience at Lahug Elementary School was both engaging and insightful. The day’s focus was on the letter Y and the numbers 1 to 4.

The morning class began with Teacher Jovelyn’s lively discussion about the sound of the letter Y. She introduced the children to words that start with or contain the letter Y, such as YOYO, YAYE, YAYI, YAYU. The use of repetitive words helped the learners familiarize themselves with the sound and recognize patterns. The children were also given an assignment to write the letter Y, and I was given the opportunity to check their work. While I was checking, Teacher Jovelyn guided the class in reading more words with the letter Y, which kept the lesson interactive and fun.

After finishing the letter activity, Teacher Jovelyn transitioned to a lesson on numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4. To reinforce the concept, she prepared a game that immediately caught the children’s excitement. The students were divided into boys and girls, and each team had to race to the board. Their task was to build a tower using four blocks. Once the tower was successfully balanced, the student needed to write the number 4 and the word “four” on the board. The first to complete the challenge correctly earned a star. The children were very enthusiastic, and the activity not only helped them learn the numbers but also encouraged teamwork, coordination, and a healthy sense of competition.

In the afternoon, the same lesson and activities were conducted with the next set of students. The energy remained high, and it was clear that the playful, hands-on approach was effective in reinforcing the day’s lessons.

Overall, this day highlighted the importance of blending structured teaching with interactive games to sustain young learners’ interest and ensure meaningful learning experiences.
